John Deere Debuts Electric Tractor

John Deere has always been a company that’s willing to use the most up-to-date technology to aid with the creation of innovative agricultural tools. It’s the willingness to take a chance that caused the company to borrow a page from Tesla’s book and create the John Deere electric tractor.

It Can Do it All

The biggest reservation many West Texas farmers had when they learned John Deere was in the process of developing an electric tractor, was how the tractor would be used. Many assumed it would only be good for light farm chores. It turns out that's not the case at all.

John Deere didn't just focus on making an electric tractor, they created one that will pull its weight on any West Texas farm. The John Deere electric tractor is closely modeled after Mannheim’s 6R tractors. It features not one, but two completely independent electric motors and a DirectDrive transmission. The tractor’s power output is 300kW which works out to 402hp. The tractor has the power needed to handle most farm chores and power a wide assortment of farming implements.

Getting to Work

It doesn’t take long for the John Deere electric tractor to be ready to work. It’s designed to fully charge in approximately 3 hours. One charge provides it with enough juice to travel 34 miles (approximately 7 hours worth of field time). The tractors are designed so that they can be charged via renewable energy sources, making them very low cost to operate. John Deere estimates the battery life to be approximately 3,100 charge cycles.

Mechanics feel that the John Deere tractor will be low maintenance, so you’ll save money and time traditionally devoted to tractor repairs.

The John Deere electric tractor produces no dangerous emissions, making it an excellent choice for the environmentally-conscious farmer.
