Find me on:

A short trip around West Texas is about all anyone needs to tell that agriculture is a serious part of this area. For decades upon decades, it’s allowed us the culture-defining lifestyle that is ingrained in the fabric of all of our communities. And as a John Deere dealer that has been serving this area since 1955, we’ll be the first to tell you that there’s nothing quite like West Texas agriculture.

But what is its real impact?

It’s economic.

This may seem like a given, but the agriculture industry is a vital source of employment for people living in the region, employing thousands of people throughout the many farming communities that sprawl across West Texas. In fact, ag jobs make up over 20% of the region’s total workforce!

Additionally, the cotton grown in this area makes up a large portion of what is considered to be one of the most substantial fractions of the country’s total economic value added by cotton production. Of the over $120 billion added to the economy by cotton, approximately $25 billion of that can be attributed to Texas growers!

It’s cultural.

Around here, ag is more than just another job. It’s a lifestyle built on unmatched resilience, hard work, honesty, integrity, and small-town pride. Farmers around here understand the importance of these values more than most, and that’s why West Texas agriculture has set an example for the rest of the world to follow. The agricultural success of our region is indicative of what West Texas is really made of, and the hard work that it takes to feed and clothe the world!

It’s innovative.

West Texas’s top crop is also one of the most efficient. Different parts of the cotton plant have been proven to be effective mulch and fertilizers, cattle feed, various cooking products, and even a means to aid in oil spill clean-up. The contributions of West Texas agriculture are no small thing, and our work is far from stagnant. Members of this industry (Hurst Farm Supply included) are constantly working on new ways to utilize our tools to help not only the region that we call home, but also the rest of the world. Your willingness and determination to do this are a big part of what makes West Texas, West Texas!
